After getting a few phone calls while I was at work yesterday saying the tarpon action was hot out in front of Prices inlet I had to give it a shot today. Started in Prices and saw plenty of mullet but just no tarpon. Ran towards bulls and found the mullet numbers I was looking for at the boneyard but still hadn’t seen any tarpon rolling or busting bait. Fished there anyways and within the first hour had a rod go off and it was the tarpon I had been looking for. Put him boatside in about 30 minutes. Looked to be well over a 100lbs. Had my dad on the boat for his first tarpon experience. To end the day we caught a 30lb red fish.
Not a bad sunday on a slick ocean! Only took 15 trips to hook my first fish this year and sure am glad that I got to put him boatside!! Didn’t see any rollers or fish busting at all today just fished in the bait.
yall suck! not really im just jealous. i fished all day saturday around botany and deveaux and saw none. didnt ever see much mullet action. only promising this i saw was porpoises busting on bait in the creeks, but no poons. congrats on the fish!
WHOO–HOO!! Glad you broke the ice Bootlegger! Bohicket, same for me last Fri. at Deveaux Bank, limited bait and no tarpons, I’m going around Pine Island and Otter later this week.
Nice fish! how long do yall think this mullet action will last? Im unable to fish the next 2 weekends unfortunatley and cant during the week so im afraid my tarpon year may be over with no fish unless it last a while
could last 1 more week or another 3 weeks. No real telling. we probably got till the end of the month as long as it doesn’t get to cold to fast. hope you can get out there and get yourself one.
Yes fishing with mullet just catch it wherever you can. You want to use the snicker bar size mullet. That way it will be easier for the tarpon to eat it whole.
