Anyone seen any mullet pushing or balled up along the beaches??
soon as this storm gets through the northern states and we get a good noreaster, look for mullet activity to get going.
saw tons of mullet moving around Kiawah yesterday evening.

I’ll be throwing the net this week for mullet to freeze for bait - - the big migration is about to begin. Then I’ll be after shrimp, to freeze for me and the fish. Then this winter you won’t be buying shrimp and mullet for bait. Fresh-frozen, vacumn-packed bait comes real close to live bait, IMHO, for catching reds, BSB and trout…and flounder on the reefs. Also, cold weather brings out the Gulp Baits, Exudes and the DOA’s, and that’s some fun! Bring on the cool weather!
agreed, NaClH2O, i freeze shrimp all summer and fall in leftover containers like the gladware sliced lunch meat ones, and yogurt containers. just gotta mark the tops “bait” so the woman doesn’t get surprised when she’s going for something in the freezer 
always seems like as soon as the bait’s mostly gone in late fall, the fish go crazy on the artificials too though!
caught 10 mullet about a pound each at high tide next to stono inlet yesterday- was looking for FMs and found them, but now i’ve got something to throw on the smoker for labor day too!
They are starting now,some friends of mine had mullet nets set at the end of edisto beach at big bay creek and were tearing em up last Monday and Tuesday. I’m going back to Deveaux Bank Fri and look for the tarpon.
You can’t catch fish on a dry line
saw some pretty good mullet run action on Labor day. Porpoises and poons right there with them. Did not hook up though. Had to leave 1/2 way through the tide

When does the mullet run end? Oh and why are they running? Are they trying to get in freshwater or what?

could last 1 week or 1 month no real time table as to how long it will last. they are moving down south to warmer water for the winter. plenty of mullet around right now in the inlets and out along the beaches.
Depending on the temps, I have caught them all the way to the end of October.

they also spawn en masse offshore in the late fall/winter, so the adults school at inlets before making their seaward and southward migration. grandma always says that the week of thanksgiving is about the last time you can catch the fat roe mullet inshore here.
