Murray 3/30 night fishing

Launched out of #4 again and went up to the mouth of the little saluda. All the bait and fish vanished. Ended up getting a cat and 2 short there. Went back down lake searching for fish. Found some bait around the essco sign but not many fish. Went into Hawleek and caught some shorts on lit docks. Left around 11:30 when the rain started. Water was 71-72. Probably 10mph sw wind to start but it died after sunset.

So where are the large concentrations of stripers now? Are they down near the dam already or are they still up the river. I have been looking from Hawley creek to Dreher Is. and am only seeing a few fish.

Not sure, We looked from spinners up to 391 on both rivers. I’m heading to the lower lake next trip

come on down its really nice down here…lol…went to the dam after work on thursday and seen maybe 2 herring at the rocks??? from toms video i thought maybe the spawn had come a month early…think i am gonna try my hand at cut bait in the next trip or two, never have done it seriously…

Those herring were about 20 yards out before the striper pushed them into the rocks.

Last school I saw was in a cove on the dam side, right before the pressure drop and big storm last friday. Haven’t seen them consistent like they were about 2 weeks ago

I saw the first sign of spawning herring yesterday. There were only about 40 or 50 males chasing 4 or 5 females in a circle by the launch. I’ve been back at lunch every day since I saw that school feeding and havent seen any schooling at all

I mark tons of fish in 40-60ft of water on the bottom and over humps, would dropping cut herring to them right now work well'?

I don’t fish cut bait, but I believe this is the best time for it. some really good striper fisherman get a lot of big fish on cut bait. I’ve never really tried to seriously. I usually try it when nothing else is working. 40 to 60 feet seems a little deep for this time of year, but give it a try and let us know how you do

Actually was able to catch some schoolies in the kayak today on topwater, around 4 pm. I think I'll leave the cut bait as a last resort like you said, thanks for the tips
