I ASKED IN THE FRESHWATER FORUM BUT I’M GONNA ASK HERE AS WELL. WHAT IS A STRETCH 25?I HAVE HONESTLY NEVER HEARD OF ONE.
It is just a deep diving crankbait for trolling. They sell them at lakeworld.
Willy,
I see people fishing the towers in the summer catching them out of yaks. It can get rough there though if the wind is blowing. If you don’t know where that is, it is along the dam.
Where is the grillage? Is it above the gap?
The grillage is at the Dam Bar and Grill. Anyone interested in meeting there Sat. night to talk fishing stories and such or maybe next week sometime?

Cut bait is the way to go if you are looking to catch stipers on a regular basis.
That just happened.
on the bottom? under a cork? … our fish were 10-20 ft and came up for live bait…It seems to me that stripers are more predator than scavanger, but I could be wrong…It wouldn’t be the first time:smiley:
edisto9871—after reading all of the posts i must admit that maybe i was just a little harsh pulling up your skirt so with that i guess that i must apologize. Naaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah! not going to do it.
seriously though; you are probably the only one who did not take the comment as real. i was just funnin with you. probably better that i got to you than some of these really tough guys out there.
good luck with your striper exploits. i am going to try them here at lake murray this weekend. also want to catch a mess of bream and shellcrackers.
No worries, my friend. It’s all good. I didn’t think anything about it. I’ll watch myself next time!
Just trying to learn every bit I can about saltwater fishing…
Nice backhanded apology Coolbreeze. Do you know anything about cut bait fishing techniques ?

The spread I usually fish is a free lined live herring, and a live herring under a cork, and put all the cut bait you can on the bottom with about an 18 inch leader. Make sure you have fish marked. Cut bait seems to work better as it gets hotter. They are predatory fish for sure but they seldom turn down fresh cut herring. Plus the cut herring puts out a good scent trail. The hotter it gets the more it seems they don’t want to have to chase their food (my theory) and they prefer the cut bait because it is easy pickings and doesn’t require much effort to eat.
That just happened.
When we caught our fish on 5/25 we were fishing in 30 feet of water.
That just happened.
hey murray; not really anything other than i just cut up a piece of bream or whatever , shad, herring etc. and chunk it out on the bottom with a football sinker. i am not that well versed in striper fishing as i gave it up for quite a few years until getting back into it a little last summer. i am going to try and give it a shot sometime this weekend however.
give me a call if you want and maybe we can hook up. i have fished with steelytom (took him out last summer) and we had a good time and accidentally caught fish.

muzzy, thank you,I can totally see your logic.I will try this tommorrow. My friend is going to deliver some live bait,I’ll cut the ones I cant keep alive.Coolbreeze…why don’t you look into buying a 'yak and fish with me?
The more you fish, the better you lie.
14.5 'yak 175 lb motor

why don’t i just seit in an innertube? that is about what i would be doing with a yak. i think that i will stick with my seapro. however; i did ride my polaris genesis I jetski last weekend and i believe that it would make a good little fishing boat to get into and around the bream beds. it is a fourseater and very sturdy.
Murray did you catch those fish on cut bait?
That just happened.
I did just as you recommended…anchored…3 rods cut-bait on bottom…1 herring under a cork. I caught the stripe on cut-bait(too small to keep) the gar and cat on the cork(casting type, stop knot at 20’) Thanks for the info. That gar was 4’ and streached my line more than any so far at Murray

Keep at it. If you find the stripers you will catch them on that spread. You just got to be where they are. Look for humps around the islands that is where the fish will hang out starting around mid morning.
That just happened.
HHMMMMMM…I happen to have marked just such a structure about 1/4 mile from last weeks spot. Thanks for the tip.
