Fished the humps in the lower part of the lake. On the bottom, freelined, live, and cut herring. Got there late because of a gastrointestinal problem. Too bad b/c the fish were biting. Caught a 8# largemouth on the bottom before I could get my other rods out. Had a 29" striper hit the freeline. Looked like a dolphin or king crashing the bait. Got him in and caught a 10# catfish on the other freeline. Missed two other fish on top and then it was over by 10:00. Water temp still kinda cool…73-75 degrees.

smoakin,
How deep was the water? I don’t know much about fishing so this may be a silly question. You say you were free-lining and got a fish on the bottom, I thought when you free-lined the fish were normally swimming closer to the top. Any help or pointers would be appreciated.

Thanks

Sounds like the only fish caught on the bottom was the large mouth. The rest were caught free-lining including the catfish. Thats my observation anyway.

king’s right…when I’m anchored, I usually fish a couple on the bottom and a couple of freelines on top. We were in 10 to 40 feet of water.

smoakin,
How deep was the largemouth?

About 25 feet. I was quite surprised when she rolled up beside the boat. Guess this was a post-spawn fish chasing bait on the hump.
