Thinking about coming down from Charlotte to fish friday afternoon and half day saturday. Can someone tell me where a boat ramp is close to where the fish are biting? I have only fished by the towers in the summer. How far is it from the dam upriver to where the fish are? Any help in a general area would be appreciated. Thanks
I put in at the state park a few weeks ago. It is farther up in the lake, so it should be closer. Just a disclaimer, it was my first time striper fishing, so you might want to take it with a grain of salt. It works pretty well for driving, just cut up I-26 and get off in Chapin. That way it is mostly freeway driving.
If you come that way you can also put in at Buffalo Creek. It’s pretty much the same ride until the end, but puts you a bit farther up the lake. They should have a web site with directions.

I wouldn’t launch any lower than Buffalo. Seems most fish are from Buffalo creek on up. Don’t be afraid to pull planers shallow. But also look for them in deeper water, like the river channel around the mouth of creeks.

I would try better bait and tackle if they are still open. In my opinion there bait is better and stays alive longer. or if you are fishing the upper part of the lake go by David Clyburn’s 803 532-2725 house off of 378 and get some bait. (he used to allow me and others to do this not sure about anymore) maybe some more people can chime in for sure. Might want to call him first.

Yea I don’t know where he get’s them but they are nice. I used to pass him on the way back from lake Greenwood years ago when my Sister lived in that area. He would be heading to greenwood and I would be heading home. Not sure where he gets them from now.
Got good bait from George yesterday and put in at Hollands on Buffolo creek yesterday.Didnt do well on live bait but caught a limit on cut bait in shallow water.
When do you think the fish will start heading back down out of the river. I say in about 3 weeks maybe.
There are fish all over the lake. U can put in at the dam and catch fish without going past pine island. Caught them in Jakes 2-3wks ago. I believe there are more fish up top and from but thats all i have ever been told. i hear they will be up there till april, but some will start to come down earlier than others. I think the fish up top are more temperamental because the water is cooler but just my .02. But never the less I will be up top sat.
