Striperskiff was kind enough (once again) to give us a ride out this morning along with Chris and Jane … We left the ramp at a little before 6am and once again Striperskiff sets us right on top of hungry fish … as we’re doing lazy figure 8’s we all bring in 10 stripers within 25 - 40 minutes … they were all very lively so we were able to release 4 shorts ranging between 18-20 inches … we kept 6 which ranged from 22 1/2" to 30" … Chris caught big fish and RJ played netboy after catching the 1st striper (24") … then right at 6:35ish the bite was gone … we tried a couple of other places before calling it around 9:30 … it was a great time and props to Striperskiff for putting everyone on fish … yet again …pics to follow:

Nie catch! I like your net with the tape mesure on the handle.Hope I can make it to Murry this week, been a long time since I fished there
Any bait at the towers or is it best to buy them? How are the game wardens doing with the new laws? Have you been checked? Shure hate to keep small fish ,but hate to see them float!
Boatpoor, I haven’t tried catching bait at the towers yet this year, but you very well may be able to catch some there now. Coming from out of town though, I believe I would just go buy it instead of taking any chances…especially if you are fishing in the morning. If you have a light to draw them up you can always go out before daylight and draw some up just off from the boat landing. Then you have the option to go buy them right there if you don’t get them.
I haven’t been checked, or personally know anyone being checked, since the law when into effect. As far as number of boats being checked, I don’t think anything is really going to change. Just randomly checking a boat is not going to do much as far as the new law goes as the only thing they can check for is if a boat has a number of fish over the limit. Most of the other changes would require time spent observing a boat while hoping to catch them catching/releasing more than 5/person. There’s been alot of talk about DNR using binoculars to do this, but IMO, I really don’t see it happening much at all. Although, I can see where they might would put in the time to do that early on to get the word out.
If you think about it, there is actually less a chance of catching a violater with a random check now than before the new law was enacted. There is no size limit now, so the only thing to check for is # of fish.
Much of the new law is very hard to enforce, but I believe the majority of people will abide by the spirit of the law and it will be good for the fishery.
If I can get a break from work I plan to try and jig some bait this week. MSC’s youth tourny is Saturday and I’d love to get my grandson out there jigging bait and catching fish. boatpoor, when do you plan to fish?
Lawcrusher, nice grill, I just got one for my B-day, and put it together yesterday. I love it, gas and charcoal. If I ever can find any fish, I’m going to copy that dinner, looks awesome! Nice haul, especially that early in the evening.
Can I borrow your towel? My car just hit a water buffalo.
