Weather wasn’t quite what we anticipated, but still gave it a go. Pulled planer boards and big slip floats down Ballentine Creek and around Salem Point. Didn’t see anything until we hit a shallow hump at the entrance to Ballentine Creek. Caught a 22 and 21 incher. Had another vicious strike on the float and he came up hard out of the water and threw the hook. So that was all exciting and planer boards are definitely a little different. Fortunately we missed the big catch of the day. A big Heron dived on the herring on one of the floats. Knocked the devil out of the rod when he took it. Just glad he didn’t get hooked. We’ve done worst. Maybe Wednesday will be better.
Nice to know there’s at least something going on in the lake …
We, however, can wait no longer … Going to the Key next month … maybe by the time we get back we’ll have dragged up some warmer weather and the fishing up here will be more bearable … and productive …
it’s my Wife’s fault we HAVE to fish now!!!

TEAM LAID BACK
If you hadn’t asked, I wouldn’t have posted today. Started out great. Got a 21 incher quickly at the same shallow hump as Monday on planer boards. But he must have been the only one left. Got another strike on the planers a little east of Salem Point, but missed him. Just didn’t see that many fish down that area. Finally tried downrods on a couple deep cuts. Saw fish often enough, all right off the bottom, but they must have already eaten. Just half a dozen weak strikes. Still shouldn’t complain about a nice April day in February.
Still trying to figure out how my line got sucked into the internal gear train on my Abu Garcia 7000.
Stripers were pretty active in the elbow area late Monday evening. The gulls were having a field day when I finally got out there, after 5:15. I eased up to them with the trolling motor and put a spoon down. Only took 3 snatches with the spoon to hook up with a 20" fish. Two other boats very close to me also had hooked up. Before I got mine in a fellow came in with his big motor running and that ended that.
They were active again today in relatively the same area, but I was on some perch so I let the gull chasers battle it out with each other. I guess some people never will learn to shut the big motor off and sneak up on the fish. Oh well, their loss means more stripers in the lake to be caught later.
