I wanted to put my 21’ v-hull in around Blacks Bridge somewhere. Is there enough water around there? What landing should I use? Where do I get bait? I usually put in at Dreher and get bait George’s but don’t know where on the upper lake. Any help would be appreciated.

spinners is nice. i like it. really good bait right there as you back down the ramp. i think the parking is adequate for what they’re trying to create. my issue with them is the closed restaurant and no break on non-member launch. i mean… if you buy 4 dozen bait you should get a free launch. and if i want to pay for an overpriced burger, why turn me away and keep the restaurant empty? makes no sense to me. members should get a discount at the restaurant.

phishinphan it is nice.but i was referring to lack of parking space.you probably have room for 12 -15 rigs.i’ll talk to the girl that works there about cutting you some slack on the bait and ramp fee.i went to school with her.she stays 2 blocks up the road from the ramp.when you go back get her to write her number on a card.that way you can call her to get bait if they’re closed.i raised hell about them being closed the day before christmas and opening late.i’ll bet it don’t happen again.
No offense sharky …but you don’t pay this girl (she is probably a good person)…phisinphan …I am with you …the last time I launched there I had 85$ in my pocket …ready to join(cause thier website is impressive)…After my problems(nobody working) …I spoke with “Russ”(head chef)(gave me attitude) and called the owner to ask why the resturaunt wasn’t open…he told me (with a rich kid prick attitude) …I was “reading the web page wrong”…I checked the page and was not wrong ,and when I called back he said “I have 2000 members and don’t need you”…The owner has his head up his ass…The last thing I said was “I look forward to buying bait from the NEXT owner” …this guy is an a-hole (thier bait is good)…I predict a new owner within the next year …depending on how much this A-hole’s daddy is willing to pump into this piece of crap excuse for an "upscale " resort

AgentDuder, the lake is only about 4’ low so you can probably use any ramp. I have not heard of any trouble at them. Spinners is probably the way to go. It is convenient getting bait as you back down the ramp. One guy load the bait while the other preps.
Spinners seems like a great idea except for the “exclusive” part. It just does not make sense unless they have enough members to keep the place packed and the cabins full. If not then why not be public. I have only met the girl that works there and have absolutely no complaints. I guess she could hook me up with a few extras, but oh well:smiley:
Thanks for all of the info. We are planning on going on the 12th, probably 2 boats. As far as bait goes I was thinking about using shiners after reading the post and talking to some guys fishing the upper lake, however a new report came in from my fishing buddy last night about using gizzard shad. Which ones do you guys think are best. Again thanks for all of the information I really appreciate it.

my vote is for herring. last 3 times i went out i had both herring and shad on downlines with a freeline off the back. only the herring got hits.
we had most of our hits on herring, but the gizzard shad are big. You know what they say, bigger bait = bigger fish.

if their docks are any indication, there ain’t 2000 members. but whatever. i just like the convenience of the bait and the bait’s quality.
sharky… parking is an issue i guess…well, maybe in time. every time i’ve been there i’ve only seen 2 other trucks max. usually just 1 other.
Running on a tangent to the original thread… I am a member at Spinners. While I wonder about the business plan regarding the membership requirement for the restaurant, it sure is nice to have a slightly upscale place to go to on the south shore. By the way, the prime rib is very good. My only complaint so far is that the waitstaff could use some additional training if they are going to truly reach upscale status.

it would be nice to have a nice place to take the wife for dinner after a sunset cruise. as a member… you should recommend a change to the restaurant requirement. open it up for everyone so they make enough money to buy top notch ingredients and hire top notch staff. members could be given a discount…say 10-15%. they make more money that way. but hey… what do i know?
maybe they don’t want us fisherman rolling in there stinking like bait and beer. Who knows, but as long as they keep giving me nice bait and good service i will use the ramp. At least until the fish move back to the big water.

good point tom… you’re smarter than you look. i agree…the bait is too good and too convenient to pass up. until they are closed when supposed to be open. that will T me off good.
they should at least have the bar open to fishermen.
I’m a member at Spinners and for several reasons. I know it’s closed now but during the summer, the outside bar is a great place to get a drink and a burger and listen to some live music. The only option we had before was Buffalo Creek and all though their food is better, their clientel is sometimes fd’ up and sometimes you aren’t in the mood for a smoked filled room with drunks falling out of barstools. Besides, you can’t get a beer at Buffalo Creek on Sunday (only private clubs can serve on Sundays). I agree the restaurant needs some work, but so does any new restaurant. They will work it out…I hope. I got my membership way before they finished building the place so it was only $60 but I am OK with $85. It is small price to pay for everything they offer. They promised their members a place to eat and drink on the lake minus the riff raff and they have deliverd so far. But I really can’t wait for summer and the outside bar to open back up.
