Murray Report 1/6/07

1 large mouth bass" 3lbs 13oz on live herring while drifting in about 30 feet of water…

Any body else have any better luck? The fish looked deep to us.

Now for the rest of the story…

Before we left we knew that we might catch nothing at all (due to Friday’s weather the day before and all the recent rain) but the weather was beautiful for January and too nice not to fish. Went out about noon and tried to start marking fish. Marked fish and “Striper Arcs” but the were in 30 feet of water or deeper. Nothing in 15 to 30 feet as expect. So instead of anchoring down we decide to drift back over the hits on the fish finder. Although I have known a fish finder to lie…That fish finder will lie to you in a skinny minute. Drifted twice in the same area for about 30 minutes a drift and only picked up the bass.

Went to spot number two. Marked fish and arcs again but in deep water. Tried to anchor up in front of them and drift back over. Fished live and cut bait with no success.

Pulled up and went to the hump off a small island. Fished live and shallow, cut and live, and not so much as a catfish. Although I did find a good canadien goose hunting spot I think.

Ended the day with one fish and were thankful for that one. One thing to note. The bass was caught in the major period for Saturday.

maybe next time.

Do you smell that?! Do you smell that?! Fish bait, Son. Nothing else in the world smells quite like that. I love the smell of fish bait in the morning.
