murray stripers friday 6/3

went friday morning from about 7 untill 3.
we did a combination of umbrella rigs, live bait trolling and a little still fishing.
we ended the day with 3 striper. they were 22,22,27 inches. the 27 incher was probally 8 poounds. we also caught 3 largemouth that were probally 2,3,6 pounds. we also lost 2 big largemouth that i would guess were about 6 and 10 pounds. and that is a serious estimate on the 10 pounder, it was right next to the boat and it was HUGE. we also caught probally 6 or 7 more short stripers.

umbrella riggs: all the striper and the 2 small largemouth (that 8 pounder and one of the 22 inch striper were caught on the same rig at the same time and boy that was a fight. plus it was a record big fish for me on umbrellas)

live bait: the big largemouth we caught plus the other 2 big largemouth we missed

we spent most of the time around the 4 main islands(spence, goat, bomb, wessinger) twoards the dam.

alright im done

good luck fishing

Do you put a leader on your umbrella, what pound line on leader? Main line?

i use rods that i know are to big and i dont need anyone on here telling me that cuz i know
that being said…i use two 6/0 size reels with 40 lb test and a 20 foot 80lb leader. i never loose a rig. i hang them up all the time and pull them undone. i dont have any 3/0 - 4/0 size reels or i would use those with 25-30 lb test.

Big reels!, thanks for the info, I just bought an umbrella rig for $39 and would hate to loose it. I have a 6/0 with 50lb and a 3/0 with 30lb. I guess I could try the 6/0 first.

$39 !!! ??? What is it like? I get mine for $5, then add whatever lure to it. Total investment runs around 15.
