I’m heading out to camp at and fish Lake Murray. I’ve heard it’s the place to go for stripers and was wondering if anyone would care to divulge some info for a newbie. I have a boat, so a couple of well known spots, what to use, and when to be on the water would be great!
I have artificials. I love fishing bait, but I dont’ know how/where to get it. Are there any nearby tackle stores that have live bait, dead bait, or do I catch it myself?
We’re staying at the state park on Dreher Island, and i plan on putting in there. I’ve heard of the towers over by the dam, but that might be a bit far to drag or drive the boat to if I can find fish around the island.
I have downriggers. Do I really need them? If the fish are deep, 30-50 ft, is jigging worthwhile? I have some salmon jigs that I think would work pretty well.
NW, I belive you should be able to buy live herring in the morning right there at the park.
Do any of you guys that fish up that way know if George is still selling bait at the park boat ramp?
If not, you could always troll or head to to the dam and get your bait there in the morning. I haven’t been out in weeks, but in previous years I have done well trolling relatively shallow (20ft -30ft) in the deep water of the river chanel at night this time of year. With as hot as it’s been they may still be deeper. Just watch your ff to see what range they are in.
I don’t believe I would mess with jigging unless you happen to mark a really good concentration of fish.
