Just decided I’m gonna wash the cobwebs off the boat and troll a few hours after dark tonight with the DR’s. Leaving from the dam about 8:00 if anyone local sees this in time and wants to go.
Sons and grandson are offshore now working on getting some fresh Mahi for the grill tomorrow, but in case they don’t pull through, I need a keeper or 2 as a back up.

Got in the water about 8 and headed over to where I wanted to start trolling. Stopped the boat to get set up only to find one of my downriggers gone off the back of the boat. I obviously didn’t snap the DR all the way into the base. Started trolling with the one line when I remembered an old DR at the house from years ago. The wife actually agreeed to drop it off to me at the dam, so I snapped it in, attached the weight and set it over the side to calibrate the counter. The swivel holding the weight broke loose and the weight went stright to the bottom.
I was about ready to hang it up then, but it was a beautiful night so I decided to at least go pull one rod. Marked fish in the 30-40 ft range but couldn’t do anything with them. Didn’t get the first fish until 11:30 and only got one more shortly after that. Both short.
Felt good to get back out on the lake, but not sure it felt $200 good.
Anyway, no stripers for the grill today, but my sons are on the way back this morning with some fresh dolphin and wahoo they caught yesterday, so things could be worse…

I read your post and almost pulled the trigger going with you. I did ride the motorcycle out there to the Dam landing about 8:30 to see all the drunks try to load thier boats on the trailers. Yep, it never dispoints me, really funny stuff. Plus my wife always learns from thier mistakes. I did see a bunch of boats out in the middle, in the channel. The weather was nice with that nice breeze. I just got back into town so I’ll be trying to get on the water when my boat gets out of the shop. Maybe we can hook up one day.
