Picked up my grandson and met Geronimo at the ramp just before 7PM. The plan was to head up the lake a bit, but as we put in there was bait all around the ramp area. We stayed there and caught fish until about 9PM catching them on top water and pulling free lines.
We left there at about 9PM after catching 7 keepers and a bunch of shorts. Headed to a hump up the lake in about 50’ and only added a couple of more keepers and some shorts before we decided to hang it up at midnight.

I think my wife and I saw you catch most of them. We were fishing there yesterday also with my daughter. Y’all was really pulling them in. Did your boat get checked by the Marine Police? We caught a couple of keepers and missed several. Fun night though!
Yep. That was us. He checked us and another boat. Glad you got you a few. I’m sure your daughter had a ball. Were you guys in about an 18’ bowrider with a walk thru windshield?
That was a beautiful evening to be on the lake.

Good to hear that the fish are continuing their biting ways. Sounds like a fun night. With temperatures rising I think we’re going to try and mix in a little night fishing on our end of the lake during the week, not on the weekends. We used to Black Bass fish for years, but we think Stripers are so much more fun and not near as hard work.
striperskiff,
I need to get some fishing lessons from you! Maybe part of my problem is I have’nt gone out in the evening. It’s tough for me since I work 3:00 to midnight shift, and I’m too beat to even think about going out when I get off work. Are you still wanting the swim ladder installed? Maybe we can work out a trade for a fishing lesson, if you’re willing to do a Sat or Sun. I will help with gas, etc. By the way, I’ve still got that green plug you loaned me at the dam that day. Do I have to hold it for ransom??

I had a blast! Never been in freshwater fish that were biting like that. Made me feel like I was offshore in a school of Dorados back home. Striper fishing on Lake Murray is definitely big game fishing, and I am hooked.
Thanks again for the awesome trip, I have a picture of the whole keeper lineup nailed up on my retaining wall just before cleaning them. I have been shopping for that secret plug and I can’t find it anywhere. Richard is ordering me a few though. Crazy that they didn’t hit that pencil popper as well as yours.
I am thinking about hitting it early in the morning with my son tomorrow and bailing out around 9am. Probably going to put in at Hilton and find a cove early, and maybe anchor a point or hump for an hour or so before it gets too hot. I’ll bring your cooler by this evening.
No, we were in the other boat that got checked. 18’ center console. She loved it when they started schooling on top of the water for about 5 min. Hope to get back out there soon!
Here are the pics of the spread. And also a closeup of the 28.5" that James caught. It was a fat pig.
Thanks again!
