Coming down SC 7/4-7/14. Bringing my 23 foot c-hawk sport cabin down. I am looking to go offshore/nearshore for A few trips. I have a 70g tank so will not be going to far. I was wondering if there was anyone who would be willing to chat with me about where to fish out if Murrels inlet. I’m an experienced boater/fisherman but this is my first time out of SC with MY boat. I really don’t care what I catch as long as we are catching something. Any help on where and what I should be fishing for would be helpful. Maybe some bottom fishing and chumming for shark? Trolling for mackerel? Any thoughts? Anyone want to buddy up that week? Or even go with me? Let me know. Thanks!!
Going out of little river, you can hit the Sherman or the Governor for some fish, I have shot many a spade, trigger, beeliner and grouper off those wrecks. Fish up current of the boiler stacks on the Governor, watch your drift as there is alot of pipe work standing, and livebottom that has grown-up in that are. If you plan to fish on anchor, net some jelly balls in the inlet for the spades, thread a run of them on some 200# mono, add a weight to the end, drop it down until they start chewing, then quarter the balls up and throw a few chunks out and bait your hooks, be sure to hold on. We have dove the Governor many times and found civil war relics such as muskets, belt-buckles and sabers. Shot a 40 pound grouper laying under the boiler stacks one day.
You can nearshore from the public ramp beside Dicks marina, after you put in, go around the oyster bar and island, head towards the jetty, fish the seawall on a running tide from the jetty opening all the way towards Marlin Quay area with gulps and shrimp. I have a few more spots up that way but you wouldn’t be able to get your boat to them as they are back in some longer tail creeks.
Wanna kill fish, then let’s go! Always ready, always willing to teach the ways.
Do you know of any spots out of Murrels where I can bottom fish? Artificial reefs, wrecks, etc? Which ones hold fish. What bait? How about shark? Send me your number if you want to meet up and fish, thanks
carl, I will be fishing off and on that week in MI. I am not the most experienced but will be targeting bottom fish most of the week with some of the family and you are more than welcome to buddy boat. If the weather is nice I’m sure we will push out to Gtown hole a day or two, but with only 70 gals i think that might be a little far for your boat. The art wrecks are decent, 3 mile, pawleys, and 10 mile reefs are good for some Juvi BSB, maybe a cobia, and spades. The kings have been scarce but we have done well with the spanish when we have tried. Either way if you want a buddy boat PM me or just give me a shout on ch 68 “Tradewinds.”

So I will now be down for 2 weeks 7/1-7/14. I will have my boat but I will not have my fishing partners until 7/7. If anyone wants to go out fishing or needs another person on their boat, I have some gas money I can spare? Let me know. Thanks
