going down with the family the week of july 11 - 18th… any advice for which way to turn the wheel once i clear the cans ??.. been several years since ive had my boat down that way… how far out is the gulfstream from there these days ?? I wouldnt mind getting on some good dolphin and maybe a chance at a wahoo or 3… thanks in advance and great forum btw…
The stream is about 50 miles out. Lots of fish being caught in 100 foot though. Get a hotspots chart. There is a ton of wrecks and good bottom with in 20 miles of the rocks too.

Scoutin For Goodies,
I will be fishing out of MI this Sunday. Looks like the weather will hold me to the 25 mile range. I have never fished out of here or these depths, do you have any advice. The biggest help would just be letting me know which species to expect to catch in these depths while trolling. Would save me a lot on waisted baits. I hear you can pick up some mahi in this area this time of year. I thought about running a few ballyhoo and ribbonfish in the spread. Also, is it a waist of time to bottom fish in the 60 foot range? Thanks
How big of a boat do you have?

Get maps unique, find a live bottom and some menhaden and go pull some baits first thing. We have been catching dolphin in 37ft of water but a more prevelant bite has been in 70-100ft. Don’t pass up any floating debris once you get past 60ft. The bite has slowed at about 10, but the way the weather looks Sat. and Sun., you will probably get your better seas later in the day. Passed fliers yesterday in 45 ft of water. The kings, cobia, and dolphin have been the target of choice for two weeks strong. Good luck and I will be on VHF10 if you want to know where the bait is.

That is pretty good advise there.
To add to it. I bought a Hotspots chart from Booties in MI last week for $24. It has most of the wrecks and alot of live bottom on it as well. You may find some spades at the wrecks but there will definitely be kings and spanish around. Get some clark spoons to add to you spread as well.
Troll a plainer rod. Getting a little deeper in the water column this time of year with the hot sea surface temps will help you cause quite a bit too.

Hey guys thanks for the info. Will either of you be out there this Sunday? Also what is a good place to stop and throw a cast net on the way out? I was also going to run a rig for wahoo down deep but that was when i planed on heading to georgetown hole. If i only get to 80 feet of water they should be out of the question, am i right? Thanks again for the help.

We run only about 22 miles off and start to see some good sized mahi.
