We are going to Murrells Inlet this weekend and I wanted to give Shrimping a go. I have my poles, net, bait, etc. My first question is what type of area/depth etc. in the water do I need to look for to set my poles and does anyone have any specific info they could share about a spot in the area that may produce. I am pretty new at this although a board member from here took me to Edisto several years ago and we had a great time and caught a load of shrimp. Any help and advice that you are willing to share will be much appreciated!
I hate to say it, but shrimping in Murrells Inlet is a waste of time. They just are not there. The closest shrimp you will find are in Georgetown, You need to be on flats to catch them for the most part and murrells inlet only has creeks.

We were down there a few years ago and I put a pole out with some bait in some muddy areas while we were out fishing just to see if there were any around. Nothing. I was down there two weeks ago and made the run down to Georgetown - its a nice drive and only took about a half hour. Head out towards the ocean and start looking for boats with poles out on the flats to the left. I was there opening day and counted 47 boats around me. No one had any decent reports that day, but its a beautiful area and easily accessible. If you really want some shrimp, go to Buck Hall - only a little farther south and shrmip Bull’s Bay. I filled the cooler there in an hour the day after I tried Georgetown.
Good Luck
Not the greatest place to shrimp but if they are there they will come to the bait. Take first creek to left when you leave public boat landing. This creek will take you to the garden city bridge, you don’t have to go that far. You will come to a place that opens up in front of mt gilead condos. Can’t miss it. In the middle of this “bay” open spot is a mud flat/sand bar. Try it there. Some of it may come out the water towards low tide. Used to pull a seine back in the day. Always caught something. Don’t take a good net. Oysters everywhere. If the spots are biting. Enjoy the show or do as the Romans do. Good luck.
There are good numbers of shrimp in Georgetown. Coorered out in 3 passes mon evening. Small to medium at best. 40 count but they were swarming.
like everyone else said, mi is a no go for shrimping. but if u are gonna do it, look for mud flats.

Thanks for the input. Any suggestions on Gtown as far as location, tides, etc.? Sorry I am new to this for the most part. Just trying to do a little fishing and shrimping while on vacation!
Mud bay. Get a chart and you will see it. They are there, but small. That should change with little rain, after this full moon.
