I play music and am convinced fish like some music better than others. It is just coincidence the music they don’t like happens to be same music I don’t like…just coincidence I tell my son.
I also play it full volume. My thought is the poor guys next to might not have a radio, so I will let them listen to mine.
If lids being slammed spooks fish, I feel pretty sure that music will scare them off too. If their feeding, you could probably do a cannonball in the water and they’d still bite, but if their being spooky, any noise (in my opinion) is not good.
If your fishing in a busy area, I doubt it bothers them b/c they are use to noise; however, if you are fishing in an isolated area and it’s real quiet, I would shut it off. Just seems like common sense to me, but maybe not.
Music terrifies all fish. It should never be played.
If possible, I go where there is peace and privacy. Don’t like hearing other guy’s music, but we all share the water. Definitely appreciate it when folks don’t blast it too loud, but can’t blame them for their personal taste or what they enjoy.
Depends on what you’re fishing for everyone knows dolphin like a good bass line, the redfish seem to key in on more mellow jams, and the wahoo usually get pretty pumped on some ACDC.
“The eagle may soar high, but the flounder wont get sucked into a jet engine.”
I also believe the fish can hear music playing on a boat. I’m a musician and I don’t have a stereo on my boat. I love the peace and quiet even when I’m alone. The sounds of nature are a form of music to me.
I fish with earbuds most of the time. But the charter in Belize we were blasting reggae on the boat, the fish didn’t mind at all. Reggae music in my headphones, if anything at all…esp in the summer.
I’ve noticed when I have Buffett playing, the fish put on strange looking hats, smile really big, and dance around. Makes the fishing tough.
I think as long as your boat isn’t loaded with 12" Kicker speakers and the bass isn’t bumping, the music doesn’t really bother them.
When I’m walking a flat stalking bones, if the fish are playing hard to get, I usually sing a little Buffett and that gets them interested.
This year, I’m also going to add some Zac Brown and Boat Drunks to my repertoire.
