Must have tools for offshore

Just curious on opinions regarding must have rigging/fishing tools for offshore boat. Specifically pliers, etc

Swage tool for crimps, side cutters, large Hook sharpener with dual rasps, prop wrench, surgical scissors for braided line.

I like my Manley Pliers, the big ones and a sheath to put them in

a couple pairs of cheap needle nose pliers. I have seen way to many high dollar “fishing pliers” go over the side. You can get nice pairs of long pliers at Harbor frieght and northern tool for about $3.00

We try not to rig offshore, just unclip the bad rig and put on a new one. I do carry two rat tail files taped together to sharpen hooks, never found anything that works better.

Thanks for replies so far. I especially like the rat tail file idea. Anybody carry a dehooker other than pliers? Also how about gaffs. 1 big and a hand gaff is my current setup.

better have a ventng tool in that bag!

I like the pliers with side cutters that a dozen companies (P-Line, Gorilla, Bass Pro, etc) are selling now for $30-50. I wear them every day and can get a good 4-6 months out of them which is a pretty good bargain for fishing 5-6 days a week.

After getting a 7/0 Owners hook through the hand, I realized that I will always carry a large bolt cutter on my boat. The eye of that hook was too large to pull through and I had to drive the boat 50 miles back in.

ARC dehooker. Takes a little getting used to but once you get the trick you won’t use anything else. Makes dropping those thousands of little C-bass over the side effortless, less handling for the fish, and can get rigs back from sharks (at least the smallish ones) without having to get any body parts near the business end. Sometimes still need pliers, but usually not.

After taking a hook through the hand this week, I have to second what Sshaarda just wrote. Man, I’m glad I had some bolt cutters on board.

You don't need your brain or common sense if you are already rubbing down the ladies with the baby oil...
