My son love to catch live bait and fish we have been out every day the past 7 days. He is hooked on going to the Stono Inlet to catch sharks.

Great! I always say that every self-respecting lowcountry boy (and girl) should be proficient at throwing a cast net.

Absolutely the best thing you can do for your child, or any child. Take the neighbors child. If they don’t seem interested or want to learn give them and their parent’s one more chance at it. If it fails what have you lost. As we all know the young one’s get bored real easy. Teach them to throw the cast net, take the hand lines and some chicken backs and catch some crabs, and take the minnow trap and catch some mudders. If you take more than two children it can turn into horseplay. Be stern with the kids, they will learn faster, and respect you for it. I taught 8 grandchildren, and some neighbors kids. They all turned out to be the best you could ever ask for.
That’s a good lookin’ tow headed boy you got there. I’ll bet you baptized him with pluff mud. There’s no better way to teach a kid to floss than putting a lead line in his mouth. Good for you Dad!

They are never to young to learn the ins and outs of the salt, great pictures! I would say you will have your best buddy till he gets his drivers lic and a girl friend! Then he’ll be back at 30
Ray, how long did it take you to teach him? Mine’s almost 4 and keeps asking to learn (I have a small 3 ft net for him) yet his attention ceases before I can unravel the net!
You need to teach him how to throw it without his mouth on the lead line…just sayin…

I’m 69 and wish I could learn to throw without my mouth
It would have been awesome growing up here on the water.
