My best Trout grub the last 3 years?

Lehi shad.A two inch look a like of the shimmy shad.Haddrells has them. They are great and Gotcha put Me on those.1/8th oz lead head and it falls slow over shell banks.Green on top with a white belly.Get some they work!!:stuck_out_tongue:

Yessir, they’s some gooooood little grubs right there. A friend’s dad turned me onto them when I was about 17 years old (25 years ago, when I was good looking), and my old business partner loved the little ones like the little green ones I shared with you. I only wish they still made 'em in the colors that were available back then when he and I fished together. After Ivy Shad quit making them, some other guy took the molds over, and they used to be available in all kinds of colors at a mechanic’s shop in Goose Creek. Ain’t there no mo.

Anyway, I appreciate Lehi and Haddrell’s for taking that mold/design over and keeping that good little grub around. Good job, Lehi. Great little grub that’s served me well for years. Trout love 'em.

You said they got them had Hadrells? I’ll be making a pit stop there Sunday probably, I’ll have to look into this because I can’t catch a trout to save my life.

Are those the “green and creme” grybs that Haddrell’s has out in the trays? They’re good winter trout bait, say PatientMaker.

No, they are little, skinny, green grubs–the smaller size of what used to be called, “Ivy Shad”. The big ones work quite well, too, BTW, as do the other colors of the same grub, such as white with green. Just make sure you rig 'em straight. They are thinner than the average grub, so some might struggle with it.

I haven’t seen the Ivy Shads in years. The one you’re talking about is 2" long? Do they still make the 4" one?

Yes and yes.

When I was a kid the Bill Uppermans 1/4 oz white buck tail caught every trout in the River.

Stonoman

Good point, Stono. Ever fish a buck tail for trout anymore? I haven’t fished one in over twenty years.

I use white bucktails for stripers on the Cooper, occasionally. Not my favorite, but they’ve caught me some fish when other baits stopped producing during the day. Too bad the summer Cooper striper fishing had to be shut down for 5 years, but that’s another matter.

DOA under cork (or freelined) and Chartreuse Senko on jighead in dingy water and Trout Trick on jighead in clearer water. I also catch a lot of trout on Gulp 3 inch Shrimp, during the last of the retrieve, when fishing for reds on deeper structure.

For all you Ashley River seekers…Chartruese Woodpecker Bass Assasin clear water…Opening Night dirty water…in the last three years. Prior to, caught many and large ,on solid white and gold…curly tail and auger tail…go figure

Agree that the green and white grub is one of the best trout lures around. Zman makes their version in elaztech. Local company available at the Angler and Haddrell’s…

The paddle-tail grubs seem to produced more than the curly-tail for me. I’m going to check out those Lehi grubs, thanks for the tip.

trout trick, 1/8 oz gamagatzu jighead. deadly. thanks bob. it’s my go-to trout bait

For 50 years i have tried to figure why a Trout would hit one bait and the next day not touch it.I have found Trout fishing to be pretty interesting and you need a lot of patience to do it the right way.I have always thought trout leave a scent trail and follow a scent trail.I pulled a good trick one time i had a feather quill float and caught a nice 16 Inch trout in a local creek.I took some rod winding thread and the Quill and attached it to the trouts tail and put it back in the water.I figured it would lead me to the school.Well it swam around for about 2 hours in the same area and i threw my arm out casting near that stupid trout. Finally I hooked a trout and it was my trout. He hit a grub again??.I took the rig off the trout and let him go.I did learn that the trout at least that one did not haul butt away after being hooked the first time.He pulled that yellow float all over the area.I never had to follow it i could see it sometimes a long way off. When the tide turned it headed out towards the main river and near me when i hooked it again. So I think the little trout head to the grass but the larger ones hang near the edge of the grass and near the deeper water spots.
