My first fly red

Had a grand weekend and caught my first fly red. Stretch caught his first tailer and a second in the same spot the next evening. I think I’m ready for Florida now. Only 25 days to go.

. I’m pretty sure I see a bandana in there aswell .

Nice. Its a lil more fun than spin, huh? I love when they get up in that “crown of the flat” grass. I don’t know what its called.

Well done!

The fly of choice for me was a spoon fly and I think Stretch caught his on a copperhead. I’m hooked and the rod/reel stuff will probably be a second choice from now on. All I need to do is outfit my ride with a trolling motor so I can cover more water.

The bandana in that pic is mine. His bandana is camo like the cap and when he would pull it up over his nose I was scard of getting pulled over by the coasties or shot by some packer out on the water because he looked like some terrorist. He did ride around in the truck a lot with it covering his face. I wonder who is after him or maybe he just didn’t want to be seen with me.

All that afternoon practice really helped. I told a couple of people but if you want a really cheap stripping basket for your boat, go to Wal-Mart and pick up a collapsible laundry basket. It has a spiral steel ring inside that you compress for storage but when you open it up, it is about 2’ tall. It really worked better than I thought it would. Cost under $7.

I use the big leaf basket that collapses. The problem is it needs to be weighted because when its calm I wouldn't use it. U can either cut a circular piece of OSB or what I did: clear tubing filled with sinkers. I have more in mine because of the sinkers. But there are no snagging issues that way. I really only use this in florida when its windy tarpon fishing.

Great looking fish guys…Congrats.
