My first tailing Red of 2010

was within reach but decided not to eat.

I was on the flat for about an hour and didn’t see anything. It was getting dark, so I decided to head back. 1/2 back to the car I saw 5 or 6 tailing about 50 yards away. Got a good shot right on top of two fish working together, they rooted around it but didn’t eat, then starting moving. waited, casted again a bit short, stripped it in and then got a good cast 2 feet in front of them but no dice. One of the fish had a huge tail and that had my heart pumping.

Think it was too dark at that point and they could not see the fly as I could barely see myself. Had to be it, Mike’s crab pattern always works.

Saw an otter walking around on the flat before the tide came in and also spooked some deer on a little island. Can’t beat it.

Don't feel like the lone ranger. I had 3 legit shots tonight and managed to screw up every single one.

Oh well, hopefully I got all my screw ups out of the way early on in the season.
