It’s probably 60lbs, but it felt like 100 getting it off the ground. I know it’s early. Mama likes them, so she gets them.
The last of the green beans pulled this morning. Granny Fisher would call it a “healthy mess”
Funny how the smallest of things in life remind you of the greatest.
It’s that time of year again. I planted first week of June. That’s probably 3 weeks too early for me. Next year I’m going to plant the last week of June.
Seed packaging says 120 days to maturity. The real time for me to maturity is about 95-100 days. Maybe it’s my soil or our climate, I don’t know. This is my fourth season on them and i think i finally have it figured out!
Looks like your deer population might be down, at least the punkin stompers
They still mess up about half of them. I just plant a lot more than needed. You can’t stop the deer and bugs. They will take what they want and I get the rest.
Love following along here, y’all have experimented with and figured out many things that I’ll probably never even attempt, so it’s cool to live vicariously.
Awesome gourd pic, 23!
It took me a long time to look at gardening like I did marine biology, but I believe that “predator swamping theory” has traction in a lot of different aspects of any biology. Green turtles nest in huge aggregations because the dogs and raccoons (and people) can’t eat 10,000 nests of eggs in a few days before the scent fades and they’re less vulnerable to predation. A school of mullet will see some attrition every day, but the lucky ones group up again and again to play the odds. My single okra plant has had tiny black ants all over it and I’ve got 4 pods so far, all misshapen from its “predators”. Ricky is a numbers guy, he just needed the mile high view to put it all together and nail season 4!
LOL, no doubt.
It’s almost over at my place too
I’ve got “stragglers” still putting out, but the equinox is next week, right?
My Stragglers
We are setting up a 10x20 greenhouse for our first winter of growing things. I am curious if I can grow okra through the winter in a greenhouse
Let us know
Because I love okra
Where I live a greenhouse requires a fairly large heat sink to survive the winter.
I’ve never looked at greenhouses in the low country, but I’m assuming you don’t need one, maybe just a fan even in the coldest weeks?
let’s listen in…

Hookworm? Pin Cushion? It’s a good way to carry a days worth of various hooks, or stash them when you are done.
Is there anything better for a game? Looking good
