My latest article for the Journal Scene

Its called Opinion Shaper, and I wrote this one on my opinion on how we can all make an impact on fisheries conservation on an individual basis. Hope you like it.

A thoughtful, intelligent guy trying hard to protect what he loves by sharing it in the right way… something we need a lot more of.

Good read, Dave.

Nice job

Very nice Dave! Nice photo too!!

Well done

Thanks for the time you give back to our precious resource. Times have changed from judging a fisherman by the amount they catch to their care for the fish themselves. The old guys could catch a cooler full and it wasn’t wasted…many rowed a boat to go fishing, back in the day. Today a bunch of old guys could severely depress a species and I’m glad to see people on this board being responsible stewards of ALL of our wonderful resources.
Please keep up this most valuable work.

Good article!
I’ve been following similar guidelines for some time now. I always release redfish and occasionally keep a trout or flounder. In the rivers, all stripers are released. I watched the decline of the striper population that spawned in and around columbia. Every boat would come in with their legal limit. As the population exploded and people realized how great the fishery was, it didn’t take long to decimate it, while following the law. The recent legislation to shut down to catch and release only has been great for the fishery and in a couple years they have rebounded pretty good. I just wish it were done much sooner. As your article states, legislation is often far behind what’s happening on the water.
I don’t push my opinions on anyone, but on my boat, that’s how it’s done. I explain to everyone why I self-impose these guidelines and most people have no problem with it. 99% of them are on board and agree. The few that had a problem with it, never got a repeat invite.
