Rigged these up last night. What do you think of this spread/combo? The larger Red/Black Islander will run on a downrigger.
Pink has been very hot for us.

Looks fine. Although we have been using bait springs or rubberbands for years. Seems alot faster and more pracical. How come your still using copperwire? I dont think any of it matters when the dolphin are thick, as a canepole would probably suffice. Good luck.

I use monel. Never used springs. I can rig with wire quickly and I like how snug and tight the bait gets. I’m sure springs are great too, just always used wire…
Gotcha.

I use wire, especially on naked baits, so the fish can’t see so much metal on the bally’s head…but would think the springs are OK on baits w/ skirts even though we don’t use them.
lookin good cane - good luck this weekend.

Saw a rig for circles using cable ties through the eyes, anyone ever tried this route?

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

The fish you caught taste better than the fish you bought!!
I prefer the small black rubber bands personally, gets the bait tighter than the springs and much faster to rig when the bite is hot.
I was getting mugged last Sunday on anything with pink or green, blue was cold and got a few on the darkies.
I might need a “BAND*” Aid
Never ceases to amaze me what people will spend on lures only to put garbage hooks behind them…I’d rather fish naked baits with good hooks!!!

Rubber bands are the only way to go. Go to the woman’s hair care section at CVS, and get the Scuncci kind. They are perfect.
Rubber bands are ok, in my opinion, for gamefish. If you’re after bills, or something that will want to “mouth” the bait before eating, you’re better off with wire. The bait stays together better with wire.
For meat…I’ll use rubbers.
