Nags Head, NC 8-7

Been ocean fishing in the yak every day this week on vacation. The water has been super clear and calm so far. Waves haven’t been over 3 feet any day this week. Monday morning it was slick as a tabletop.

Went out this morning before dawn and launched into the ocean. Winds out of the NE and confused seas. waves out of the East 1-2 feet at 9 sec and other sets out of the NE 1-3 feet at less than a second.
Water is still insanely clear. I could see my red/white gotcha plug on the bottom in 25 feet of water.
Trolled soft plastics for a little while and the blues shredded about 5 w/o me getting one in the yak so I changed tactics. tied on a 1/4 oz jig head and tipped it with a small section of shrimp tail…the tail fan and about 3/4 inch of meat.
I stopped counting at 100 blues in less than 3 hours.

Finished the day by hooking another blue only to have something BIG inhale it. Fought it for a few seconds before it blasted directly under the yak. My rod doubled over and snapeed in 2 places. (this is the rod that landed 3 over the slot reds in about 10 minutes a couple of weeks ago). Fought it on the broken rod for a few more secs before the busted pieces got tangled and the 20 pound power pro snapped.

Back at the house before 930 to start activities with the family.

So much water, So little time

awesome! No reason to be scared of a surf launch!!
