Just got back from the family beach vacation in Nags Head. The beach was great again this year. The renourishment has created a nice white sand stretch for a good portion of the beach near teh Outer Banks Pier at high tide. There are still a good number of houses along the ocean front that are just one storm away from being driftwood.
Plenty to do with the family if you’re into history. The Lost Colony is an entertaining program. The Elizabeth 2 is a bit of a mishmash of 16th century sailing vessels, but really neat if you don’t look at her too closely. Jockey’s Ridge are the largest sand dunes on the East Coast. Kitty Hawk / Kill Devil Hills is the home of the Wright Brothers Museum and Monument. 3 Great NC lighthouses within reasonable driving distance.
Best part of Nags head is that it ISN’T Myrtle Beach. It’s rental houses instead of high rise hotels, smaller shops instead of a Bargain Beachwear on every corner, some cool local restaurants worth exploring.
Go check it out. A word of warning the water gets COLD when the wind blows out of the SW for an extended period. High water temp for the week was 68, low water temp was 59.
