Go and buy the knot tool they sell, sorry don’t remember the name… I can tie nail knots in like 4 seconds now, It looks like a pointy “V” with kind of a flare at the end. You wrap your leader material around the tip and thread it back through, feed in the fly line and pull tight, snip snip and whammo you got a nail knot in a few seconds. I can take a picture of mine and send it to you if you want…

“Carpe Diem” does not mean “Fish of the Day”…

Hey fellow fishermen, the nail knot tool is called a Tie-Fast. I don’t go fishing without it! And seems like they only cost around six dollars. Go get you one, you won’t be disappointed.

Stretch,

Nail knots are ok, but I suggest whipping a loop in the end of your fly line and go loop to loop. Strong, quick-change,and simple.

Another good site is animated knots. Here’s a link

Sorry.

Heck Stretch doesn’t fly fish. He thinks flyfishermen are elitists. He’d rather use the long gig than the long rod!

The hell you say old man!
I like fly fishing…

I just lack the holier than thou attitude you have about it:-)

Marsh, you never answered my email about spanishs and blues…

ps I also like stickin fish with spears and giggs too…would that make me a gentlemanly savage?

Stretch, I didn’t receive an e-mail from you to my knowledge. Shoot me another one and I’ll be glad to reply!

I started using mason hard nylon for my butt section and mid section on my leaders. Does anyone else use this leader material? What knots do you use to connect the leader to fly line and different pound test sections? I don’t think I could tie a nail knot in 30lb mason. This stuff is pretty stiff and though it is hard to tie a knot in, it will turn over clousers and other heavy flies with ease.

Hows that stand up to spanish and blues?

You have mail Mr.

I am trying 50lb braid and some fine wire I bought from Cabela’s that you are supposed to be able to tie a knot in. I haven’t put either to the test yet. I tied some flies on long shank hooks and tied the body just ahead of the hook bend. Gives me about an inch of bare hook shank. We’ll see how it goes.

I use regular mono to tie up my leaders.I use a blood knot to join them.I use a loop to connect the fly.

Marsh, lemme know how that works out for ya!

Since when have I ever seen you throwing a flyrod at fish?

Hey, Stretch is just smoothing out the rough edges…

I use the mason material for the butt section of my leaders. I tie up the rest with the Seaguar knot. It’s easy to tie and has a high percentage knot strength. Plus, itis easy to tie.

Thanks Milk I’ll check it out!
