navigating Dewees inlet

I was out last year and was able to stick to the right side of the inlet and made it out even at low tide. Does anyone know if the sandbars have changed much? I have a 19’ seapro wa and im coming out at the beginning of Nov.
Thanks

I’d be interested in this as well. I haven’t gone out Dewees much this year. When I have gone out I have hugged the left side against Dewees Island. It gets shallow but it’s doable.
The chart shows the channel against IOP but there is a huge sandbar when you go out on that side. I think you have to make a hard right and turn down the beach. This is how the parasail boat goes in and out. I also saw that big 36 contender express come straight in (on plane) on that side.

yes hug the coast of Dewees past the sand bars, about 200 yards, then offshore. My 25 ft can do it mid to high tide but not too sure about a low tide, the risk isn’t worth the reward for me. I would stay away from the IOP side unless you’re following someone that knows what they are doing

Have you all looked at the google maps pic of Dewees? i know it could have been years ago but it sure looks shallow on the left side.

alright, I think I know when the photo was taken. If you look in front of Lowes at HWY 17 where the new raising canes chicken place is, it is being built in the pic. I actually worked on it last year and that pic is from sept. Now the only thing that would screw up my theory is if all the pics are seemed together and Dewees is from another date. cant trust my theory. But last sept and nov. I went out the right side. I’ll try the left in nov. I may just go out at high tide and keep tract of the depth for low tide.

Oh brother.

Went out 38’ went to the right a good ways and cut out in front of the condos if that helps but it changes about like the stono!!! Good luck watch the breakers or your radar if your in the dark and have it!! Be safe!!!

like mullet said, hug dewees real close until you get to the green metal roof house and then angle out.

Don’t head south until you get past the breakers that are a mile or so offshore! They still sneak up on me.

thanks for the direction,(sep for wando) WHat? Mr. King thats what I do too. only ceramic exclusive. we tiled the canes in mtpleasant and north charleston. Loved the zebra stripe floor on your site.

I have a condo there at Port-O-Call and watch the parasail boat all the time. He goes all over it at any tide. I know it is shallow because I see a lot of boats try it and back off, I also see a lot of larger boats come streight in. The sand bar moves all the time and its comming closer to IOP. Hug the bar and pick the spot with the least breakers. Your still gona squeeze your butt when you go through. High tide is no problem because there is never sand showing at low tide where the breakers are so it’s at least 6 or 7 feet everywhere.

creektrail,
I don’t go out or come in dewees at low tide at all. I just go out through the harbor. It takes 30-40 minutes longer but it beats being grounded!

brianh, I can appreciate that but you do have a bigger boat too. You have to have a lower draft off plane and theres no way I would go through on plane. Last year when going out the second day I thought that I saw a gap up the middle. I was extremly lucky to get turned around and make it back to the iop side.
