Getting comfortable on the new boat and I’d like to fish the North side of the North Jetty. I’ve seen some sand bars on maps as you’re exiting the harbor and turning to make your way North. Anyone have any good advice on the best way to head out? Any points of reference/landmarks to watch out for? I’ve gone out to the South Jetties through the channel markers in Dynamite Hole but there are no markers for the North Side. Also, do North or East winds make it swell on that side? Thanks!
There is not a channel through the north. On a high tide and slick day, you can run a small boat across close to the beach.
Been a while" several years" but used to use Breach inlet past
IOP, but it could also get dicey especially with easterly blow , my
preferred route if seas allow is out of channel and around…
Be veewy veewy careful as elmer fud used to say:smiley:,good luck and post us some pics…

When you see “Old Glory” waving in the breeze, know that it is the dying breaths of our fallen hero’s that makes it wave.

The small cut on the north side is the reffered to as the ditch and the story I read said that it was made by a female sailor who ran supplies, when chased her shallow drafting sailboat would run right across it leaving any ship following chasing her crashed. There is a map of old sunken ships in the jetties and there is a concentrate close to there of sunken ships.
you learn something new every day
Any other ideas? I figured I would repost on this thread instead of starting a new one. Seeing lots of boats turn left out of the harbor and shoot right over the North Jetty. Good Idea/Bad Idea?
I’m thinking it would be better to just shoot straight out through the channel and turn back around to hit the north side. Just trying to make sure I’m not “That Guy” out there this weekend…

Unless you are intimate with those rocks, go out and around.

quote:I've seen people with over 40 years of experience crossing those rocks mess up and hit them. Be careful going over the submerged rocks (go slow) and watch your depth finder, It's safe about 100 yards offshore of Sullivans for the most part, know your tides also, if it's dead low and a negative tide it will be really shallow. Going out and around is not the worst thing to do either, lots of boats fish the ocean end of the north jetty.

Down here is where a signature goes but they can confuse and anger some people so I don’t have one.
Hug the beach and go slow! This should do you fine and is about 4 miles shorter than going out and around
Sounds good guys. Feeling more comfortable about giving it a shot. Will send photos if we catch anything. Thanks.
