Navigation question

Ok, I really should know this by now, but i have got to ask.

What is the 400 line, or for that matter the 300 line and so forth. I am guessing it has something to do with north / south location as I know it is not depth related.

Todays electronics can spoil someone to the point they do not understand the basics anymore.

Thanks for any help.

It refers to position based on Loran lines (60 line for us).

People are referencing the last three digits of the Northing in the old Loran C system. This system was widely used before the introduction of GPS and satellite positioning. It is outdated, but often referenced.

Can you still get a Loran C TD chart??

I have a Maps Unique chart that is 10 yrs old that has the Loran C on one side and lat/lon on the other. I am not sure if they still make this version or not. It’s hard to tell from their website. I would call and ask them directly http://offshore-fishing-map.com/Contact_Offshore_Fishing_Maps.htm

No, they don’t make charts in the US with LORAN C lines anymore. Pretty useless since Obama shut down our LORAN system

I’ve got 2 very nice Raymarine LORANS if someone wants one
