Navionics Phone App

Can the app be used as a last resort navigation aide offshore in the event the chartplotter goes on the blink and your handheld GPS isn’t working either. Or, are you better off just relying on the compass?

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

Yes my buddy who fishes Offshore 2 -3 days a week used his for half the season one year when he had to send his unit back.

Yes, it works very well on both my Android phone and tablet. As good as my plotter, just a smaller screen and harder to read in the sun, but it works great for $10!

It works very well, but I would not use it as a primary device. Make sure to download the map areas you need ahead of time in case you don’t have cell coverage.

Larry, can you send me some info on the Navionics App please. Thank you sir.

Yes, it works very good. Just turn your phone to airplane mode and make sure your GPS is turned on. Airplane mode turns off the cellular antenna, so you cant send and recieve calls, but you can’t do that offshore anyway without a Sat phone.

Even if you just think you may need it as a last resort, don’t forget to have a phone adapter/charger on board. Running GPS on a cell phone is a huge drain on the battery.

I’m a big fan of the app. I actually found so interesting bottom fishing spots with the contours… Well worth the $9.99
