NC flyfishing suggestions

Thinking about a last minute trip up to SW NC to throw some flies at some trout later this week, something I haven’t done in years. From my google research it looks like there are shops out of Cashiers, Sylva, Asheville. I was thinking about getting a guide at least a half day and another day just park and wade.

Any suggestions on areas/towns to start or for wade friendly streams for those who don’t know the area. For that matter guide services? I see Hookers fly shop in Sylva, Brookings in cashiers and a bunch in Asheville. Most info I got from flyfishingtrailnc.com

Thanks

Go see the folks at Hunter Banks, or Curtis Wright Outfitters have friends that work at both places and can point you in the right direction. I have fished with Justin at Curtis Wright and he leads an awesome trip. I know the water has been really low and the hot temperatures have slowed fishing and some have stopped guiding trips due to fish mortality. But check up on either location they will take care of ya. Shoot me a PM if you need anything further.

Talked with Hunter Banks shop. They said water is the lowest it has been in 10 yrs. NC state water level website is pretty scary.

They are still guiding the tailwater fisheries and smaller creeks at higher elevation which have remained cooler.

I am going to float the Watauga on friday, with the Hunter Banks guys. Thanks for the tip.

For a guide, I would highly recommend bookings in cashiers. We were the beginning of August and had a blast. We had a great guide and caught plenty of fish.
