I went sunday to the near shore reef and got skunked with my neighbor and brother and brother in law. We got out there around 9:30am and scanned for structure on the bottom and did found alot, but we went out there for about 45 minutes and nothing!! We were using squid(which the black sea bass love) but didnt get one bite! So i was wondering have yall got any luck out there??
You have to be right on top of the wrecks.

bravo why arent you working
quote:Did you lose ane rigs/tackle? If not, you were not on the structure. Weakfish, spades, spanish, sheepshead, blackfish, bluefish and ladyfish to name a few are thick on the nearshore stuff right now. Try some live bait(shrimp, mudders, finger mullet) on the structure and it should be non-stop action. The biggest key as mentioned earlier is finding high bottom relief and if they are not there move to another spot.

yea i was right on top of all the structure! i was on three different wrecks!
The problem I had a couple weeks ago was the current. I couldn’t keep my bait down on the bottom, that sunday you needed at least 5 oz., mostly 8 oz. to stay down; sounds like that was your problem to me. If you don’t get slack in your line, your bait is NOT on the bottom. Also, you must keep lettingout line to keep slack in your line when the current is swift…

I heard the same thing yesterday about the nearshore reefs out of Murrells Inlet my friend had a charter and they only caught a couple kings trolling but nada on the bottom.

You’d do better in deeper water. You’d catch bigger fish too. Get a Maps Unique and check it out. There’s a whole world of fish out there. Well worth the money. I can’t believe you didn’t catch fish. Anytime I stopped off at the near reefs it was fish on every drop, just small bsb’s and such though. As said above, you have to get right on top of the structure. Only fish with braid too.
