Near shore with my 7 year old son Sunday 10/12

Ethan and I got up 5 am this morning to go fishing. We put the boat in and started throwing the cast net to load up with bait We caught about 100 shrimp and a couple pin-fish. We headed out into the Charleston harbor and straight through the jetties and into the great blue Atlantic… we then headed south trolling lures behind. No takers. We came up on a pod of dolphin consisting of approximately 10 or more … I tried to snap a couple pics but the sun was blinding me, did the best I could. Then we cruised past Folly Beach . We finally got to the spot we wanted to fish. put 3 lines in 2 with shrimp 1 with a pin-fish , All of the sudden bam, the line with the pin-fish goes off. I hand the rod to Ethan and the fight is on. After about 10 minutes the fish comes to the surface Ethan yells out shark… I take a look and its a big bull red fish… Ethan continues to fight the fish and it got tangled in 1 of the other lines , just as fast as it was on the hook it was gone , a memory. We then had 3 more run offs but it just wasn’t our day to land one… Next time …

One of the things I like most about my job is seeing kids get excited about fishing. Good on you for taking him out.

Good job Dad. He will talk about that “shark” for a long time.

Good times! Well done Dad!

Awesome, I can’t wait to take my boy out. Just waiting on him to get a little older.

Ethan has been on the water since he was 6 months old. He loves it more and more everyday! He would fish everyday if I had the time to do so…

Ray- he loves being on the boat but gets bored quickly fishing. All he wants to do is jump in and swim.
