nearshore reef

1 million BSB’s were caught today all under size. Same at jetties until we ran out of squid, finger mullet, and shrimp. Is it the wrong time of year to load up on bass? They are good on the dinner table, but man all were small. I think last time we went to nearshore reef it was Fall and loaded up on keepers.
Either way, we are definitely headed to deeper water next week for the bigger fish. kids had fun though so it was a good day!

You need to be at least 60’ for keepers. 85-100 is even better. If you can get away from the public reefs you’ll have the best chance at catching some real knot heads.

lots of small ones when water temp this high but you maybe able to pull some keepers off the nearshore reefs with big jigs vs cut bait

Agree. In the summer months the large ones move to deeper water. Plenty of small ones in close, even inshore, but this time of year I wouldn’t start shallower than 90-100 ft. Same with grouper. They will move closer in the winter, but right now I’d fish deep for keepers.

The gardens have good knotheads right now.

It was slow yesterday. We were everywhere from 100- 150 ft and the bottom bite was slow. Water temp 86 degrees and almost full moon might have something to do with it. Fished my usual spots that usually produce but everything seemed shut off.We managed a few but not what Im used to.
