Nearshore Reefs

Hello all,
I was wondering what nearshore reef is the best for fishing this time of year. The farthest I am willing to go out is about 5 miles. Also, what types of species of fish are prominent there and the best baits. All responses are greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Capers reef, nearshore, and you might want to look at charleston 60. Best bait is alive bait so consider spending quality time getting bait before the trip and how you will keep it alive. I like to jig for bait before fishing time. Search this site for info on that.Cigars minnows get their share of fish so consider bringing as well.

You will catch lots of black sea bass at near shore reefs, with some other guys mixed in here and there.

Shrimp has been the big hit for us. We have been fishing pretty much all the reefs. The further out, the better the fish IMHO, but if you want to get the most bang for your buck I would recommend picking a nice day and going for the 60.

An interesting and fun trip is to drive out past the jetties, past about 4 buoy sets and let the boat drift on a 10 kt or less day - Either toward Dewees Inlet - or Stono. Have a few live baits under balloons and some cut bait rigs on the bottom. By the time you get to either inlet you will have a cooler full of fish. Black sea bass- whiting, sharks, spots, croakers even king mackerel are possible
