What’s a good color fishfinder for saltwater? been out of it a while. How’s the Garmin FISHFINDER 400C?
Do a Google search for Garmin sounder problems before you buy a Garmin. I’ve had Furuno, and Raymarine, and Garmin. Based on some recurring, frustrating problems that require sending units back to the factory over and over again to fix the same design problem, which was well known by Garmin to be an ongoing issue at the time I bought my units, I wish I had stuck with Furuno or Raymarine, both of which proved themselves to me for many years. Garmin makes a great GPS, but there are a lot of people with the same radar and sounder issues I have. There are also a lot of happy Garmin customers. I was one of those happy customers when the only Garmin product I had was they great GPS. Now, I have learned some things the hard way. Do your homework on a larger scale than just a local website before you buy.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

How about this?
Raymarine DS500X Digital Fishfinder w/ Dual Transducer
I found a good price and cant find any negative info on it.
Anybody using it?
I haven’t used that particular model, but based on experience, I trust Ray Marine. Raytheon has been around a long time and is/has been used by the Navy for years. We’ve been using Raytheon products for, oh, probably more than 20 years, and we’ve have never had any problems with any Raytheon unit to my recollection. I’ve installed Raytheon myself before, too, and it’s just as easy as Garmin or any other product. Do a google search for any problems people are having with that unit. If nothing comes up, go for it.

That’s the unit I have on my rig.Reads the bottom very well if you wear Guy Harvey gear like I do.![]()
I had a Furuno FCV 585 with a 1KW ducer. Showed the bottom and fish really well out to 180 ft. Never bottom fished deeper than that. Good Machine.
