Need a 22-26 gallon tank to replace the Pate fiberglass tank under the seat of my 17’ Newport Whaler. It started wilting, and now has an actual crack 4" long in one corner.
No more fiberglass, only metal or poly.
Any suggestions for a really tight budget (other than not owning a boat!) ?
Got ya. A lot of the boat builders (home built) say they get them from eBay and such places. I had that boat years ago and many people have been replacing that tank.
I thought while I was on the internet, I would see how much a 22 gallon tank cost and maybe how Whaler owners are dealing with the fiberglass tanks that old Whalers have. Here is what it says on the Bostonwhaler Owner’s Site.
“Boston Whaler does not install any fiberglass fuel tanks at the factory. Only aluminum and polyethylene have been used through the years.”
I guess your and my boats didn’t have a fiberglass tank?
Give me some dimensions. I have an aluminum tank at the shop that may work for ya’. If so, it’s yours. We just need to figure out a way to get it to ya’. Will that fit your budget?
We have been using a plastic Moeller tank to replace these fiberglass tanks. The moeller part number is 31620. It is a 20 gallong tank, but is the only tank we have found that allows enough clearance at the fill.
I had a company called Florida Marine Tanks in Miami custom make my tank for my Whaler some years ago. (www.floridamarinetanks.com) They did an awesome job and it fit’s under my seat like it was made in the boat from the factory. My whaler’s an old one (64 model) and I required a long skinny tank (about 21 gallons) because of the “sit down” center console design on the old Super Sport’s so it would slide under the bench seat. I think I paid about $800.00 for it at the time (maybe 15 years ago) but it looks like a new one after all this time. Not a bad investment if your going to keep your boat long term.
