Need a new fuel tank.

Need a new fuel tank. The welded-in vent tube on the old one has failed. The tank is a 16 yr old aluminum, so it is about time. The old tank is purpose built by RDS for HenryO and fits nicely. However, it is a slighly weird shape. The top is about 21" wide an bottom about 13" wide. Height is about 11 1/2". Length, about 51". 39 Gallons.

I can find plenty of stock tanks that would fit in the hold, but none match that shape well and, consequently, give up a lot of capacity. So, any ideas about other shops that are certified to build marine tanks that might be able to give a competative price? The RDS price is not out of line. But, 'thought I’d check around a little. The RDS replacement is aluminum, which will work just fine (get another 15yrs). But, I’d also be interested in knowing how much more a stainless tank would cost.

if you get another aluminum tank, just epoxy coat the outside before you install, and it will probably outlast you

Hey Chris. Thanks for the advice. The new tank will definitely have several coats of epoxy protecting it.

Gdaddy, you have a PM.

Larry, thanks for the source. They beat RDS significantly on price and will deliver with the first coat of epoxy already on the tank. RDS doesn’t offer to paint it. Speedy may get the sale. Still looking, though. They may not get the sale if gdaddy gets it.
