Need a tip or two

So I went out last Saturday kaying with the family (put in at Bowens Island resturaunt, not a fishing event, but I brought along a rod and casted some artificials, 2 bites, 0 hook sets  anyways, I plan on going out this weekend, but I’m gonna bring some mud minnows and maybe some frozen mullet instead. Anyways, I tried to fish structure, and docks, I’m assuming this is the correct approach? I’m mainly fishing for reds, trout, flounder, the typical stuff. If I were to try for sharks, is around bowens island a decent spot (just throw out a line while I work popping corks)? And where would I aim to fish for them? I would really appreciate all the help as I’m still getting use to fishing inshore instead of the surf. And one more question, if I were to tie to a dock, what is the best way to keep from getting my kayak scraped up on the pilings? I would really appreciate the help guys!

Bowens island, there are a few good spots in that creek. Reds hold on docks, creek mouths, and oyster bars. Trout hold less on docks and more on ā€œnaturalā€ structure. If your tossing a cork, fish where there is different bottoms and in current breaks. Redfish will take a cork but seem more willing to hit a bottom rig. You can’t really fish a carolina rig over oysters and snags though, try tossing live bait on a jig head or split shot rig.
Sharks- that creek doesnt hold sharks of any size really and not that far up. You may wanna be a bit more experienced in catching fish from a yak before you try to get a shark boatside… IMO. Any more questions PM me
Kayaks get scraped and dirty, it happens. But never tie up to a dock unles your fishing for sheepshead dropping straight down, all your fish will get wrapped up and gone… anchor several feet off the dock for ample casting/fishing room
