Just moved to area but have inshore fished in Florida for years. I have no idea of how and where to fish here in SC. Tides/Current take some getting used to. I have a bay boat and 2 small kids that LOVE to fish. Any ideas of where and how to help a Dad put his kids on some fish would be extremely appreciated. I’ve put in at Leeds (Ashley River) and Remley’s before but that’s it (been on water twice total in SC). Fished a couple flats on Wando with frozen shrimp, cut bait, and artificials with nothing. Any help is very much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
I had some fried mullet from Sam’s across the road from Joe Patti’s 2 weeks ago. I don’t think fried mullet is any good here.
That’ll probably be a let down for ya!
You are fishing the right areas and using the right bait, just keep at it, look for drains and creek mouths. The best place to get personal advice and some fishing spots to try is to attend some of the many free seminars put on by Haddell’s Point Tackle or Charleston Angler tackle stores. Both have good people. Another good place to get advice is to join a local fishing club. I’m a member of the East Cooper Fishing Club and we hold monthly meetings like many of the other local clubs and all or most have local guides or other fishing experts come in and give seminars on fishing techniques specific to our area.
We had our meeting tonight, in fact I just got home a few minutes ago and we had a great speaker talk about catching flounder. Sorry I you missed our meeting this month.
Look in the fishing club section of CF.com

visit a club and get to know some of the local guys.
Good luck and if you find that our local mullet is any good deep fried, let me know. Meanwhile, I stick to using it as bait.

I fished the Wando for the first time last fall. It was also my first time in the salt. I headed north from Remley and fished the rocky bank on the left (you can see it from the ramp). Most of the left side is rocky. Then I headed up river and fished the first set of piers on the left. The piers sit on a drop off into 15 ft (average). Some of the piers are too close to fish in between tides but should be fine during the slack tide. I caught fish at both locations on grubs and top water. It might prove to be productive in the summer too. Send me a PM if you need to more info. I hope you catch some good fish with your kids!!
Claim- I actually know Sam C. very well, hunted with Sam for years in AL. I agree with you on the mullet, its pretty good back home in Pensacola. Thanks for advice and guidance on clubs, my have to look into it if work schedule allows. Thanks again.
Mark- I actually went up river and fished flats on the right from Remley’s. Rain ran us off last Saturday before I had a chance to explore. I love artificials but around here seems like MM are the ticket. Thanks for responses. I’m sure I’ll spend more time on this forum, good group here. May PM later, thanks again.

You are always welcomed to come by and sit in on a meeting or two before you decide if you want to join or not. Hope to see you around. Sam can cook some good mullet, wish he hadn’t been skimpy on the combo portion though…I could have ate more!

I’m in the same boat… Just moved here from Sarasota Fl. The inshore fishing is way more tide sensitive. It’s just as much about the spots as it is about the timing/tide.
What the heck is MM by the way? Menhaden, Mullet???

Mud Minnow. You can catch 'em or buy them at the bait and tackle shops. Good bait if you can’t get live shrimp, finger mullet or menhaden.
