Need Boat Wiring

I tried to search for this, but the search function has been down on the site lately. Anyhow, I have been Mr. Do it Yourselfer on the boat lately, but I can’t figure out why my horn is not working on the SeaPro 180CC and am ready to turn it over to somebody else.

Is there anyone in the North Area that does boat wiring and troubleshooting? It’s the only thing on the boat that isn’t working and I would like to get it fixed. My hunch is that it’s an easy fix.

I can haul the boat to them, or they can come to my house. I live in Goose Creek.

Thanks!

OUR GOVERNMENT HAS BECOME THE ENEMY OF FREEDOM.

Very simple system.
Three parts: wires, button, horn.
Test the horn connected directly to a battery to make sure it works.
With the horn out of the way, test that you’re getting 12v from the button/switch.
After that, there is only wiring/connections.

That’s the problem. I amnot getting 12V to the switch, but can’t trace the switch wiring. The horn works fine.

Still working on it.

sammie - I have the same boat and just rewired the entire thing myself…

There should be 12V coming from the battery up to the panel and jumpered to all the push button fuses. The 12V goes across the fuse and to the momentary rocker switch, and from there up to the horn. I replaced all my push button fuses as all but about 3 of them were shot and I had to keep jumping more and more switches off the remaining good fuses. Bad practice but everyone does it I bet. Just check 12V going to the fuse and see if you get it coming out.

Good luck!

Optiker,

Let me follow your advice and see if I can trace the problem. I wired all the electronics on the boat, so I have some aptitiude, but this is kicking my butt. I’ll work on it this weekend and report back.

Thanks for your input!

Its the pushbutton breaker. Contacts corrode and you read 12v on it until a load is applied and it drops to 0 v.

Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will sit in a boat and drink beer all day. FISH 24/7---- 25 Grady w/ a couple of Gas Guzzling 175 Johnsons “O-SEA-D” the old “Havanadaydream”

I’d bet the house Havana is right

Great info. Already saved it and printed it.

I’m guessing the pushbutton breakers are the fuses next to each toggle on the instrument panel, right?

I have to replace the trailer axle tomorrow, but will tackle the horn Thursday.

Thanks again everybody. I’ll report back.

Not sure what year your 180cc is, but in 2000 a breaker was directly below each switch. Do the check someone mentioned above … then check the breaker. I had my cigarette lighter breaker go out. It would test OK with a meter, but would not carry any current. Haven’t found a direct replacement yet (since the breaker has 3 connections: 1: Power In, 2: Power Jumper Out … to next breaker, 3: power to switch through the breaker).

Good luck.

I tried to use the existing wiring to finish the job, but bailed out and connected the horn switch and a new push button breaker to my power buss. It’s kind of a bail out, but I didn’t have the time to trace the loss of continuity to the switch. Thanks to everyone who offered help and advice.
