need captain for my boat weekend of 10/13

Hey whats up?! I plan on coming down with my new (but used) boat the weekend of 10/13 to the Chucktown area. Would like to do some in/near-shore fishing but need a captain to help operate it since it is my first boat and my first time with it on the water.

I havent been able to take it out to practice because the lake levels here around Charlotte are too low for me to risk it and most boat landings are closed. I dont want to bring it to Charleston and do it by myself and be one of those jacka$$E$ in the rookie thread on this board. I have been on plenty of boats but only at the helm while cruising.

I am a newb and need some help. Weather has been ****e lately and my last two nearshore charters I booked on a similar boat from folly were cancelled due to weather. Now my boat will be out of the shop and ready to rock. I took it in to have everything checked out since I bought it. The mechanic told me that it was cherry, a heckuva deal, and everything works great.

I would prefer a licensed captain or someone with some references. I would like to negotiate a rate and allow that capt to inspect before setting off. The boat is fully insured and all safety equipment is on board and I will add whatever additional safety specs per captain’s request. I can also make time during the weekdays with some advance notice.

I grew up in and resided in Colleton County (shhh!) with chuck town as my stomping ground, went to USC (GO COCKS!) and it has always been my dream to own my own boat.

It is a 1997 Trophy 2002 WA with a 150 Mercury Offshore in great shape. The last couple years I have worn out spots on Pitt Street Bridge, Folly Pier, Isle of Palms, etc. being a landlubber, but it’s finally time I can get on the water on my own boat.

I am 35/m and a very responsible person and respect the ocean, DNR, Charleston, etc. I honestly need help with everything from trailering to bait rigging.

Any help and contacts would be appreciated.

Skymute-

I too live in Charlotte but come down to Folly nearly all weekends for 2-3 days a a time. I keep a 23 ft. Chris Craft on Lake Norman and a 17 ft Whaler down here ( a 14 ft jon boat and 3 yaks too). I can help you out a bit around Folly. I’m not the captain you’re seeking for your maiden voyage.

What do you do up in Charlotte?

Thanks for your responses.

I went to USC from 1990-1995, moved from Colatown to Charlotte in 1998. I do commercial property insurance for a living. I am 35, married with no kids.

Right now, I am still wide open for that weekend and will likely come down Friday night to try to catch some mullet with the cast net @ pitt street to use for bait.

Sky, How 'bout them Cocks! That was a great game lastnight. If you still need assistance, I am not a licensed captain, but have untold hours in the salt inshore/offshore,… Experience w/ Numerous types of boats and trailers, do some mechanical work on the side, ect… and I live near Shem Creek. I would be more than happy to pass on what I can to help you out. C-843-906-1622/Jim
