NEED: Folly “Hideaway” recipe for their Bacon Wrapped Shrimps… they were to DIE FOR.
That old place on Folly River that is now a marina… heard a rumor that the ladies that ran it are still around, one is managing Locklears’s at the pier… next time I’m there I’m gonna see if she knows.
I know you all know what I’m talking about right?
I don’t know what you are talking about but here is what I like to do with large shrimp. Take a wood skewer, put on a shrimp, them a strip of bacon (just the end) then another shrimp, then the bacon, then a shrimp, then the bacon, and keep going until the skewer is full and the bacon is kind of interlaced with the shrimp. Then grill. The bacon imparts a great flavor (like bacon does for everything). You don’t need to grill long as the shrimp cooks fast. I actually take the skewers off the grill a bit early as the shrimp will continue to cook a bit.

I do it similar to DF, but the shrimp don’t take as long to cook as the bacon. I can eat shrimp raw but ain’t eating no raw bacon. So we skewer and season the shrimp, then put the bacon in the microwave for a couple minutes on some paper towels, about half cooked but still limp enough to wrap around the shrimp. Then wrap the shrimp and put them on the grill. Both will finish about the same time.

You have to get the thick cut applewood bacon. I usually cut a strip in half and wrap that around the shrimp then skewer it.
Yeah, good stuff all! The Hideaway used to have cream cheese filling or something like that and it had other ingredients. They were awesome. I may need to pay Locklears a visit.
