Need help around Goat Island

We are heading down to Goat Island, adjacent to Isle of Palms on the intercoastal waterway, this Wednesday. We have never been to the area an would appreciate some input on where to fish for reds, trout, flounder and sheepshead.

We would also appreciate some input as to where we might catch some shrimp in the area.

We will be there for a week and intend to fish, shrimp, gather oysters and catch crabs.

We would appricate any input on areas that are productive close to where we will be staying. We are from the Columbia SC area and would appriciate some help from some of you locals.

Thanks Much,

Opie

Not familer with that area… but the same things hold tue. Try slow drifting several different docks with live finger Mulley it a Carolina rig or if your fishing one rod, throw loive bait on a 1/4oz jig head. If you have a cast net, finger mullet and menhaden work best. If not buy or collet live shrimp and minnows. Try trout fishing with popping corks, look for where tidal creeks empty out and fheres a nice oyster point or structure. Trout reds and flounder gather around ambush points, bends in the creek that have a current break, docks, and oyster mounds and points. All of these break up current. Fish sit in the slack current and wait for bait to get swept past. Fish popping corks and live bait around the aforementiod areas for all 3 species. It’s the prime season so I think it will be hard for you not to catch a fish honestly. Good luck, have fun and be safe!

Outgoing tide, fish all the mouths of creeks emptying into the main creek in back of Goat Island. Incoming tide, fish the docks and grass lines behind and between the docks in back of Sullivan’s Island from Breach Inlet south. The docks behind Isle of Palms from the IOP Connector south on outgoing are also good. The feeder creeks opposite from those docks and the grass line south of the connector on outgoing with shrimp/mud minnows under a popping cork will reward you with some nice trout.

Always be respectful of the dock owners if they are enjoying their property. Move on to the next one, plenty of fish for everyone.

I am envious of your location for your holiday. It is truly a beautiful place and some fine folks are there. Enjoy your stay. Will you adopt me for a few days?

if you have a jon boat or flats boat you can go to gray bay behind goat island where ive had a lot of luck with big reds, look up gray bay on google earth

If this is your first trip, don’t even try Gray Bay.

It will humble you.

If you do what I said, you will catch plenty of fish without getting lost and/or stranded.

Gray Bay is not for beginners.

Period.

Obey this wisdom. He’s helping you.

Thanks for the input, hopefully I can post some pictures of nice fish when we get back. Just for the record we are bringing an aluminum 1750 bay center console Duracraft with a 50 Merc 4-stoke, and I hear ya about Gray Bay. I don’t want to find myself stranded at low tide, been there and done that = no fun. >{///((’>

Go into Haddrell’s Point and ask them for advice. They’ll be able to help you with areas to fish and whatnot and the techniques to use, especially if you buy a chart or some tackle.
