This may seem like a silly question, but can someone please explain how to catch a trout? I can catch redfish after redfish and flounder after flounder, but have yet to catch a trout here in SC. Went fishing yesterday in NE Florida with my Uncle and we caught a few trout. I don’t know why I can’t catch them back home. What kind of structure do they like? Deep/shallow water? Small Creeks? Grass? Oysters? Live bait or artificial etc.? Anything would be appreciative. Thank you.
Right now everything you listed is where there at this time of year. Trout move a lot so don’t stay in one spot long, but don’t give up on it, go back and try it on a different stage of the tide. Put you and artificial shrimp 3 ft under a popping cork and go at it.
I’ll trade you. All I seem to catch is trout. I’m not complaining. Not so good catching redfish. But it is a matter of time on the water. If I were you I would fish points on incoming tide and creek mouths on outgoing tides. Trout like fast moving water with deep water nearby. Oyster beds close by are a positive. I have a lot of success with a DOA shrimp free lining. Switch up the color until you find out what they like on that particular day. Some days they like live fresh shrimp. I see some people using jigs with various plastic baits. I personally have not had must success but I will continue to try. Good Luck.

I hear you Jake…I have the same problem here.
Delayed but not Denied!
The comeback starts Tomorrow
thanks guys. its just getting annoying caught 5 down in Florida all on a vudu shrimp. I have caught plenty of reds and flounder on it, but no trout. Maybe I am just in too shallow water. Will try the mouths of creeks/inlets. I usually use the popping cork as more as a visual indicator with live bait under it. Does it really work with artificial and the whole popping technique. Im thinking trout like being near the tall grass with deep water like you said.
I wish I had that problem. I target red drum and always end up with trout. Trout seem to eat anything. Mullet, shrimp, mud minnows. I typically catch them under a Cajun Thunder popper. Get familiar with the water depth where you’re fishing. Drum and flounder are bottom feeders, so if you’re targeting trout, you’ll want to stay off the bottom.
