Need help. Rod Match up

Hey all,

I just bought a new Penn Conflict 5000 reel and was wondering what kind of Rod to match up with it. My hopes is to have this be my inshore set up for Reds, Trout, and Flounder. I plan on packing 30lb braid on it. Any ideas for rods would be great. I imagine I need something Fast with MH Power. And looking around the same price point as the Penn reel. I was thinking Shimano Tallus Bluewater Series. Thoughts?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you are only planning on using it for trout, flounder, and spottail, I’d return it and get a smaller size. I’m more familiar with Shimano stuff, but a size 2000 or 3000 with 15-20lb braid will be plenty for what you want to fish for. Congrats on the new reel though and hope you find that matching rod that really sets it off for you. Trevalla L-ML rod would be a good match in my opinion.

You don’t need anything that big, a 2500 size with 15lb braid will catch anything inshore. A good medium action 7’ rod is the way to go. Shimano Voltaeus is a good rod with good action that won’t break the bank.

I have couple of those Voltaeus rods and love them. I don’t think Shimano makes them anymore.

I used the 2500 for redfish, trout, and flounder. 5000 may be a little big. If you get a smaller size (a 3000 would be adequate), pair it up with a gloomis E6X. Great rod!

Fish tremble at the sound of my name.

AndyB has 2 All-Star medium action spinning rods that would work for you with either that 5000 reel or if you downsized to a smaller reel. $20-$25 is the asking price.

Thanks all! I am going to exchange the reel for a smaller one.
