Need help to transfer data from gps to sd card

I have a Hummingbird 987 SI and want to backup my #'s on a sd card. The manual says it can be done but having trouble. I put sd card in slot like it tells me to and says all nav. data has been transfered. When I put sd card in comp. it shows 3 files, none with the info I am looking for. Has anyone out there with this unit done this. Any help would be appreciated.

What program are you using?

My units require a 2MB card for data transfers, not sure if yours is the same. Large data cards will not work in some units

I am using a sdc 128mh card and it is saying that the transfer was successful but am having trouble putting them in mt computer. Not sure what program is needed. Maybe my computer is not capable of opening these files. One file I try to open says it needs to know what program created it.

what format are the three files you find on the card and what program are you using on the computer? Might need a program to translate them to something the computer program can read?

I use GPSBabel (www.gpsbabel.org), has worked well for me to convert to/from Lowrance’s .usr format and .gpx format, also does Google Earth .kml which is cool sometimes. Don’t know much about Humminbird and if they have their own file type the way Lowrance does, but if so that might be the problem.

Your default programs on your computer will not let you look at the contents of the file downloads. You would need a program like the one mentioned above to view the contents of the files. Andren works as well for this also.

Your wpts may be backed on the sd card, but don’t take my word for it !

I think you will need to go to the Hummingbird site and download the software to be able to view the data on your computer.
I have a 597 and mine works great with the Hummingbird software but can’t open the files with anything else.

Thanks, I called Hummingbird and you are correct. I do have to download a program from Hummingbird to view and save to my computer. Two Sons you were wright, they told me my info was saved on the card but to save to the computer or edit on the computer I would need the program. Thanks to all for the help.
